Medium Chopping Board in English Sycamore by The Woodlark
The medium wooden chopping/serving board by The Woodlark is made from English Sycamore from the Castle Howard Estate in Yorkshire. With this batch of Sycamore having a highly rippled figure, referred to as Fiddleback Sycamore, appearing almost iridescent when in certain lights.
The Woodlark is under the ownership of Mark Bennett, who studied Architecture and Interior Design at the Royal College of Art in London. He has been working almost exclusively in fine woodwork since 2000 and now makes his pieces from his workshop in Malton, Yorkshire. Marks creative skills and knowledge of the materials is incredible, he is endlessly fascinated with unique varieties of wood and has spent considerable time learning first hand about its history, qualities and possibilities. In all his work he celebrates the natural beauty of the wood, keeping markings and emphasising the unique spirit of the material in each piece whether it be a board or an item of bespoke furniture.
Renowned and highly sought after, Sycamore has natural antibacterial properties which is why it has historically been used in butchers blocks. It is also used to produce musical instruments such as violins and guitars.
The board is handmade, meaning it is planed, shaved, sanded, oiled with food-safe Osmo oil and stamped by hand making each item unique with variations in grain, ripples and colour adding to its charm.
Designed to have a natural shape of a figure, that can be mixed and matched with the other boards, they are intended to represent a family member no longer around, being present and remembered at the table. An heirloom board to be passed down to loved ones.
Size: 49cm x 20cm
Care: Use a clean damp cloth and wipe all parts of the board to keep uniformity. Do not use soap.
Dry and buff with a dry cotton cloth to keep the lustre.
Keep board upright to dry so water doesn't sit on the board.
If you need to re-oil, Osmo oil is recommended.
